Dangote Petrol Sells N65 Cheaper in Togo, Say Importers

Lagos | September 14, 2025 — A group of fuel importers has alleged that petrol supplied by Dangote Petroleum Refinery is being sold at a lower price in neighboring Togo compared to Nigeria.

According to the importers, the product is landing in Togo at a rate about ₦65 cheaper per litre than the retail price offered to Nigerian marketers. They argued that this pricing disparity puts local distributors at a disadvantage and fuels suspicion that Nigerian consumers may be subsidising cheaper exports.

The claims come amid growing debate over domestic pump prices, with reports that the refinery recently announced direct supply to 11 Nigerian states at between ₦841 and ₦851 per litre. Importers insist the refinery should prioritise fair and transparent pricing for the Nigerian market before extending competitive advantages abroad.

While Dangote Group has not officially responded to the allegation, the development has intensified calls for stronger regulatory oversight to ensure Nigerians benefit from the multi-billion-dollar refinery sited within their borders.

Analysts warn that if true, the price gap could worsen fuel scarcity and hoarding in Nigeria, as cross-border traders may find it more profitable to move products outside the country.
