Dangote Refinery to Begin Direct Petrol Supply to 11 States from September 15

Lagos | September 12, 2025 — The Dangote Group has confirmed that its multi-billion-dollar petroleum refinery will commence direct supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to 11 Nigerian states beginning Monday, September 15, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday through its official X handle, the conglomerate said the move is aimed at easing distribution bottlenecks and stabilising pump prices across key markets.

According to the announcement, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti residents will purchase petrol at N841 per litre, while Abuja, Delta, Rivers, Edo, and Kwara will have it at N851 per litre.

Industry experts describe the development as a potential game-changer in the downstream sector, as it marks the refinery’s first direct-to-market distribution of PMS since operations began. The move is also expected to reduce reliance on intermediaries and improve transparency in fuel pricing.

The refinery, located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, is the largest single-train refinery in the world, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. Its gradual rollout into the domestic market is seen as critical to Nigeria’s quest for energy self-sufficiency and reduced dependence on imported refined products.

Analysts, however, cautioned that while the refinery’s direct supply may bring temporary relief, broader issues of logistics, subsidy debates, and foreign exchange volatility could still influence pump prices in the coming months.
