In a significant move to bolster national security, the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has convened a series of high-level briefings with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and other Service Chiefs. These strategic meetings are aimed at addressing pressing security challenges facing Nigeria and enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces.
The briefings, which took place at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, focused on key areas such as counter-terrorism efforts, border security, and the ongoing fight against banditry and kidnapping. Minister Abubakar emphasized the need for a coordinated approach to tackle these threats, leveraging the collective expertise of the military and other security agencies
General Musa, who recently hosted the 43rd Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff, highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in addressing transnational security issues. He noted that the complexity of modern threats demands a unified response across borders to ensure a secure environment for economic growth and development in West Africa.
The meetings also touched on the role of the Defence Space Administration (DSA) in supporting military operations through space-based intelligence and surveillance. The DSA’s mission to develop resilient space capabilities aligns with the broader goal of enhancing Nigeria’s security architecture.
Minister Abubakar assured the military leadership of the government’s commitment to providing necessary resources and support to ensure the success of ongoing operations. He commended the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and dedication to protecting the nation, emphasizing that the federal government remains committed to equipping them with modern tools and technologies to combat emerging threats effectively.
These briefings underscore the Defence Minister’s proactive stance in engaging with military leaders to address Nigeria’s security challenges. As the country continues to face diverse threats, the collaboration between the Defence Ministry and the military is crucial for maintaining national stability and security.
