Defending Champions PSG Outclass Atalanta in Champions League Opener

Paris, France | September 18, 2025

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) began their UEFA Champions League title defense in emphatic fashion with a commanding victory over Italian side Atalanta on Tuesday night.

The reigning European champions showed their class from the start, dominating possession and creating chances at will. PSG’s attacking trio, led by Kylian Mbappé, proved too sharp for the visitors, with the Frenchman opening the scoring in the first half before adding another in the second.

Atalanta, known for their high-pressing and attacking style, struggled to cope with PSG’s pace and precision. Despite moments of resilience, the Serie A side failed to find a breakthrough as Gianluigi Donnarumma pulled off key saves to maintain a clean sheet.

New signing João Neves impressed in midfield, linking play seamlessly, while coach Luis Enrique praised his team’s discipline and hunger to start the campaign on a winning note.

“We wanted to set the tone from the very first game,” Enrique said after the match. “This performance shows the players are ready to fight to retain the trophy.”

The win places PSG at the top of their group with three points, providing early momentum as they seek back-to-back Champions League titles. Atalanta, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture to keep their knockout stage hopes alive.
