Delta State Government Issues 21-Day Ultimatum To Unapproved Schools

The Delta State Government has announced stringent measures against unapproved educational institutions, threatening immediate closure of all unregistered nursery and primary schools across the state that fail to meet regulatory requirements within a 21-day grace period.

In an official public announcement signed by Theresa Adiabua Oliko, Director of Public Communication and Functioning Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Information, the government declared its determination to comprehensively sanitize private sector participation in primary education throughout the state. The notice was distributed to journalists yesterday in Warri.

According to the government statement, proprietors of all unauthorized primary educational facilities statewide have been directed to urgently upgrade their infrastructure and properly formalize their operational status with the Ministry of Primary Education within the stipulated timeframe.

“Failure to comply with this directive will attract severe sanctions, including outright closure of all such schools,” the announcement warned, emphasizing that the ultimatum has become necessary due to the alarming proliferation of unapproved private educational institutions across Delta State.

The government expressed particular concern about “poor infrastructural facilities, unqualified teachers and unhealthy operational environment” in these unauthorized schools, describing the situation as “worrisome” to state authorities under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

Education experts interpret this move as part of broader efforts by the Delta State Government to enhance educational standards and ensure quality learning environments for pupils across the state, particularly following recent assessments that revealed significant deficiencies in numerous private educational establishments operating without proper authorization.

The ultimatum represents the latest in a series of regulatory interventions by the state government aimed at strengthening educational infrastructure and improving academic outcomes in both public and private educational institutions throughout Delta State.

School owners affected by this directive are advised to immediately initiate the formalization process through the appropriate channels at the Ministry of Primary Education to avoid the impending enforcement action once the 21-day window expires.
