The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Benjamin Kalu, has proposed a strategic partnership between Nigeria and the Montefiore Einstein Medical Centre, a leading United States-based medical institution, to enhance healthcare service delivery across the country.
Speaking during a high-level engagement with officials of the medical centre, Rep. Kalu emphasized the urgent need for international collaboration to bridge Nigeria’s healthcare gaps, particularly in specialised care, research, and medical training.
“We must build strong alliances that can support our local institutions and equip our professionals with world-class skills and technology,” Kalu said. “Montefiore Einstein’s track record in innovation and community-based health solutions makes it an ideal partner for Nigeria.”
The proposed collaboration is expected to focus on areas such as capacity building for medical personnel, exchange programs, research in tropical and chronic diseases, and the development of health infrastructure.
Stakeholders in the health sector have welcomed the move, noting that such international partnerships could significantly reduce the burden of medical tourism and help retain skilled health workers within the country.
Further discussions are expected between both parties in the coming weeks to define modalities and formalize the partnership framework.
