D’Tigress Await Quarterfinal Opponent After Perfect Group Stage Run

Abidjan, Ivory Coast – Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will discover their quarterfinal opponents on Wednesday as Angola faces Cameroon in a playoff match at the ongoing FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 tournament.

The defending champions secured their place in the last eight with dominant performances in Group D, thrashing Rwanda 92-45 before edging out Mozambique 60-55. These victories extended Nigeria’s unbeaten streak in the competition to 26 games since their last defeat in the 2015 semifinals against Cameroon.

Cameroon enter the playoff with mixed results, having defeated debutants South Sudan 70-63 but suffering a heavy 75-49 loss to Mali. Their -19 points differential highlights defensive vulnerabilities. Angola, meanwhile, struggled in the group stage, losing both games to Egypt (70-54) and hosts Ivory Coast (82-74), finishing with a -24 points deficit.

The winner of Wednesday’s Angola-Cameroon clash will face D’Tigress on Thursday for a semifinal spot and a chance to qualify for next year’s FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Nigeria remain strong favorites to claim a record-extending seventh continental title under coach Rena Wakama.

With their unbeaten run intact and World Cup qualification within reach, D’Tigress continue their quest to cement Nigeria’s dominance in African basketball. The quarterfinal matchup promises high stakes as Nigeria aims to maintain its continental supremacy.
