Lagos, Nigeria – June 18, 2025
The National President of the Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA), Mr. Adeyinka Aroyewun, has dismissed claims that the electronic call-up system is responsible for easing traffic along the Apapa corridor.
According to Aroyewun, the traffic gridlock that plagued Apapa for years was largely due to major road construction works initiated four years ago, not the efficiency of the e-call-up initiative.
“The credit being given to the e-call-up system is misplaced. The traffic relief we’re seeing today is primarily because road construction projects that initially caused the congestion have now been completed,” he stated.
He also called for a more transparent and efficient management of the e-call-up system, stressing that it must be improved to prevent future abuse and extortion of truck drivers.
The Apapa port corridor has long been a focal point of logistical challenges in Nigeria, and stakeholders continue to push for sustainable solutions.
