Easter Festivities: Police Assure Kano Residents of Robust Security Amid Heightened Vigilance

As the Easter season approaches, the Kano State Police Command has moved to allay fears and reassure residents of their safety, promising comprehensive security arrangements across the state. This assurance comes on the heels of recent security concerns that led to the suspension of the iconic Durbar festivities during the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, a decision rooted in intelligence reports pointing to potential threats by disruptive elements seeking to exploit large gatherings for nefarious activities.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, addressed the public at the Bompai Police Headquarters, emphasizing that the force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has put in place robust measures to ensure peaceful religious observances and public order throughout the Easter period. He urged worshippers and residents to remain vigilant, comply with security guidelines at prayer grounds, and avoid bringing items that could arouse suspicion. The police also issued a stern warning against reckless behaviors such as horse riding, car racing, and disorderly conduct, which have been expressly prohibited to prevent any breach of peace.

Bakori called on parents and guardians to caution their children against being influenced by subversive groups, stressing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security. He encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, reiterating the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property during the festivities.

While the suspension of the Durbar—a cherished cultural and religious tradition in Kano—has drawn mixed reactions from residents, many acknowledge the necessity of prioritizing public safety in the face of prevailing threats. The police command’s proactive stance underscores the gravity of current security challenges and the collective responsibility required to ensure a safe and harmonious celebration for all.

As Kano joins the rest of the country in marking Easter, the message from the authorities is clear: peace and security remain paramount, and every resident has a role to play in upholding the values of unity and vigilance that define the season.
