The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed over 200 mobile courts nationwide to prosecute traffic law offenders as part of its special Easter patrol operations. This initiative, announced by Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed, is aimed at ensuring a safe and smooth Easter celebration across Nigeria, with operations running from Thursday through April 23, 2025. The mobile courts will focus on offences such as speeding, dangerous driving, overtaking, lane indiscipline, route violations, road obstructions, use of phones while driving, overloading, and failure to use seat belts or child restraints. Other targeted violations include issues with passenger manifests, operation of mechanically deficient vehicles, and improper latching and twist-lock practices.
To support these efforts, the FRSC has also established a Situation Room at its National Headquarters to monitor activities nationwide, process information, and coordinate with relevant commands and stakeholders for quick response. The Corps Marshal directed all commanding officers to collaborate with strategic partners, including the military, police, DSS, immigration, NSCDC, emergency agencies, state traffic management bodies, NGOs, and ambulance services, to ensure effective enforcement and public safety during the festive period.
In addition to the mobile courts, the FRSC has deployed over 1,000 patrol vehicles, 184 administrative vehicles, 92 ambulances, and other logistics to facilitate prompt removal of obstructions and provide rapid response to road traffic incidents. The Corps expressed confidence in the cooperation of Nigerians and emphasized the role of volunteers in assisting with traffic management during this high-mobility season. The overall objective is to reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries, ensuring a safer environment for all road users during Easter celebrations
