The Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has adopted a budget of 19,636,030 Units of Account (approximately USD 19.6 million) for the 2026 fiscal year.
The approved figure marks a slight increase from the Parliament’s 2025 allocation of 18,696,897 Units of Account, which had reflected a 19.5 percent reduction from the previous year.
The Parliament’s budget represents a modest portion of the overall ECOWAS institutional expenditure, which stood at more than 418 million Units of Account in 2025.
Officials said the budget adoption underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen the Parliament’s legislative, oversight, and representative functions within the regional bloc.
While the amount has been formally adopted by the Parliament, further confirmation from ECOWAS institutions is expected as the consolidated budget process advances.
