In a bid to enhance operational efficiency and improve learning environments across Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Education has reaffirmed its commitment to securing timely financial support for its institutions and initiatives.
This was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Shamsudeen B. Ogunjimi, and his team to the office of the Honourable Minister of Education in Abuja.
The high-level meeting focused on key financial issues affecting the education sector, including the timely release of overhead funds, consistent disbursement of school feeding budgets for Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs), and prompt payment to contractors. These steps, the Minister noted, are essential to prevent disruptions in school operations and safeguard the welfare of principals and administrators.
“Our discussion also touched on the need to redelegate certain procurement and payment responsibilities—especially those below defined thresholds—to ministry and agency levels. Doing so would not only streamline operations but also reduce administrative bottlenecks for both the AGF’s office and various ministries,” the Minister stated.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, noting that the AGF had pledged to prioritise the release of overheads and resolve issues related to the school feeding programme.
“I deeply appreciate Mr. Ogunjimi’s responsiveness and collaborative spirit. Since assuming office, he has brought renewed energy to the Accountant General’s office, and we are confident that this strengthened partnership will result in better financial management and greater impact in our schools,” the Minister added.
The Ministry affirmed its continued commitment to working closely with the AGF’s office to ensure that education in Nigeria receives the attention and resources it deserves.
