EERC Engages DisCo, MainPower to Address Persistent Power Outages in Enugu

August 11, 2025

The Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) has initiated strategic discussions with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and MainPower to tackle the persistent power outages affecting residents across Enugu State. The meeting, held on Monday in Enugu, was aimed at fostering collaboration and implementing solutions to restore stable electricity supply.

According to the EERC Chairman, the commission is determined to enforce operational efficiency in the electricity value chain and ensure that consumers get value for their payments. He emphasized that the prolonged outages have negatively impacted economic activities and daily life in the region, necessitating urgent intervention.

Representatives of both EEDC and MainPower reportedly outlined the technical challenges contributing to the disruptions, including aging infrastructure, limited generation capacity, and transmission bottlenecks. They pledged to work closely with the EERC in upgrading facilities, improving fault response times, and ensuring scheduled maintenance is strictly adhered to.

The EERC assured that it will intensify monitoring of service delivery in the state while also exploring regulatory measures to ensure compliance by electricity service providers. Residents expressed cautious optimism, urging the commission to translate the talks into immediate action that would end the long-running blackout issues.
