The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has urged Nigerian women to take a more prominent role in the fight against corruption, stressing that their involvement is critical to building a transparent and accountable nation.
Olukoyede made the call during a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja, where he highlighted the pivotal role women play in shaping values both at home and in society. According to him, women, as mothers, caregivers, and community leaders, possess the moral influence necessary to instill discipline, integrity, and accountability in future generations.
He explained that corruption thrives where moral standards are weak, and emphasised that women can serve as change agents in ensuring that Nigeria’s anti-graft efforts yield lasting results.
The EFCC chairman also noted that the agency is strengthening its collaboration with women-led organisations, civil society groups, and professional associations to deepen advocacy on ethics, transparency, and whistleblowing.
“Women are not only victims of corruption but also powerful actors who can help dismantle its roots. Their voices must be louder in the campaign for accountability,” Olukoyede said.
Analysts have welcomed the EFCC chairman’s remarks, noting that increased female participation could help broaden the fight against corruption beyond enforcement to include value reorientation, civic responsibility, and inclusive governance.
