The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has restated the Commission’s unwavering commitment to entrenching integrity, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s public and private sectors.
Speaking during a recent engagement in Abuja, Olukoyede emphasized that the EFCC under his leadership remains focused on restoring public trust and driving reforms that will reposition the agency as a model of ethical conduct in governance. According to him, the fight against corruption cannot be successful unless anchored on strong institutional values and a deliberate culture of transparency.
“We are determined to ensure that our processes reflect the highest standards of integrity. It is not just about arrests and prosecutions; it is about restoring the confidence of Nigerians in public institutions,” he said.
Olukoyede noted that part of the Commission’s strategy involves extensive internal reforms and systems audits, alongside the deployment of technology to reduce discretionary abuse and enhance case management. He also highlighted the agency’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and international cooperation in tackling financial crimes.
In his recent outreach to young Nigerians, the EFCC Chairman issued a strong appeal for them to shun cybercrime and embrace legitimate paths to success. He encouraged Nigerian youth to leverage innovation, education, and entrepreneurship, warning that involvement in internet fraud undermines their future and the country’s global reputation.
The EFCC boss was recently honored with the “Integrity in Public Service” award by the Nigerian Human Rights Community in recognition of his transparency-driven leadership and commitment to ethical justice delivery. The award, according to the organizers, was based on his consistent advocacy for due process and institutional reforms.
Olukoyede assured Nigerians that the EFCC remains focused on pursuing its mandate without fear or favor. He added that under his watch, the Commission would not only be a watchdog against corruption but also a beacon of the very values it promotes.
“Our mission is clear, to rid Nigeria of economic and financial crimes while ensuring that the EFCC itself remains a symbol of the integrity we ask others to uphold,” he concluded.
The renewed stance by the EFCC leadership comes at a time when public confidence in anti-corruption institutions is being tested, with calls for more transparency, impartiality, and visible impact in the recovery of looted funds and prosecution of offenders.
