EFCC Chairman: 18 Serving Governors Under Ongoing Investigation

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed that no fewer than 18 sitting governors are currently under investigation by the anti-graft agency for various financial infractions.

Olukoyede made this revelation while addressing journalists on the commission’s ongoing efforts to tackle high-level corruption in Nigeria. He emphasized that the EFCC remains committed to upholding the rule of law and will not be deterred by political status or influence.

“Corruption is a major impediment to development, and we are resolute in our mission to confront it regardless of whose ox is gored. Presently, we have dossiers on 18 serving governors linked to various allegations ranging from misappropriation of public funds to contract fraud and abuse of office,” the EFCC boss stated.

He, however, refrained from naming the affected governors, citing the sensitive nature of ongoing investigations and the need to preserve due process.

Olukoyede also urged Nigerians to continue supporting the Commission in its drive for transparency and accountability across all levels of governance, stressing that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility.

The disclosure has sparked reactions from various quarters, with calls for increased transparency and the need to ensure that investigations do not become politicized. Nonetheless, the EFCC chairman assured that all investigations would be thorough, impartial, and guided strictly by the law.
