Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State on Wednesday paid an unscheduled visit to the ongoing drainage construction project at Adekitan Petrol Station in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) of Ado-Ekiti to personally assess the pace and quality of work.
The visit underscores the governor’s hands-on leadership style and his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and environmental management across the state. During the inspection, Governor Oyebanji engaged with site engineers and contractors to evaluate progress made so far and to ensure that the project aligns with the design specifications and delivery timelines.
Speaking briefly at the site, the governor emphasized the importance of the drainage project in mitigating perennial flooding in the area and enhancing urban resilience. “This is a critical project for the people of this neighbourhood and Ado-Ekiti at large. We are taking proactive steps to prevent flooding and protect lives and property, especially as the rainy season sets in,” he said.
The drainage system, once completed, is expected to improve water flow, reduce erosion, and enhance the general sanitation of the area. It is part of a broader urban renewal initiative by the state government aimed at modernizing infrastructure and promoting sustainable development.
Governor Oyebanji also expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so far but urged the contractors to expedite the project while maintaining quality standards. “This project must meet all safety and engineering benchmarks. The government is investing in this for the long-term good of our people,” he added.
Residents in the area who witnessed the governor’s visit commended his proactive approach and direct supervision of public projects, describing it as a reflection of genuine concern for the welfare of the citizens.
The inspection tour is one of several similar visits by the governor as he continues to monitor key infrastructural developments across the state, reinforcing his administration’s resolve to deliver on its promises.
