Ekiti Woman Remanded for Allegedly Injuring Boyfriend’s Scrotum

A 20-year-old woman, Joy Ikoja, has been remanded in prison by a Magistrate’s Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, after being accused of causing severe injury to her boyfriend, Ibrahim Usman, during a violent altercation.

Ikoja was arraigned on Tuesday before the court by the Ekiti State Police Command on charges related to inflicting harm on Usman’s scrotal sac. The incident is reported to have occurred around 8 p.m. on April 12, at the Irona area of Ado-Ekiti.

Inspector Adeboye Adesegun, the police prosecutor, informed the court that Ikoja unlawfully inflicted the injury and engaged in conduct that could disturb public peace. The alleged offences are said to be in violation of Sections 186, 255, 256(a), and 181(d) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law of 2021.

While the prosecution opposed bail for Ikoja, citing concerns that she may flee, her defense counsel, David Ogbede, argued for bail, reminding the court of her right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola rejected the bail application and ordered that Ikoja be remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre. The case has been adjourned to April 22 for further hearing.
