El-Rufai’s Departure: No Hiccups for Tinubu’s Re-election – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed concerns that the exit of Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, from the party will impact President Bola Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027. According to the APC, El-Rufai’s departure will not affect Tinubu’s re-election bid, as the party’s structure and setup do not facilitate marginalization of any region. The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, emphasized that the party remains committed to supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid, despite opposing views from some quarters. Basiru noted that the APC has a strong presence in all regions of the country and that El-Rufai’s exit will not create any vacuum that will affect Tinubu’s chances. This development comes amidst a flurry of opinions from various political leaders and stakeholders on Tinubu’s potential re-election bid. Some, like Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, have publicly backed Tinubu, stating that the North should support his re-election and wait till 2031 to vie for the presidency. However, others, including the Arewa Consultative Forum, have rejected this idea, emphasizing that the North cannot afford to wait that long. El-Rufai, who has been critical of Tinubu’s administration, shared an opinion piece warning that the President might face opposition in the North during the 2027 elections. Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), also echoed this sentiment, stating that the North is mobilizing against Tinubu’s re-election. Despite these opposing views, the APC remains committed to supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid
