Lagos, Nigeria – August 14, 2025
Comfort Emmanson’s lawyer, Adefunke Maria, has said her client has not yet decided whether to pursue a civil suit over an incident aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Lagos on Sunday, August 10.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme on Thursday, Maria alleged that a flight attendant blocked Emmanson from disembarking upon arrival at Murtala Muhammed Airport. “Whether Comfort will allow the sleeping dogs lie… she will revert,” the lawyer stated, adding that any decision to seek compensation would be taken solely by her client.
The remarks came a day after a Lagos Magistrate’s Court struck out police charges against Emmanson following their withdrawal, leading to her release from Kirikiri Correctional Centre. The Aviation Minister confirmed the development and criticised the circulation of indecent video footage from the incident.
Ibom Air, however, maintains that Emmanson assaulted a member of its cabin crew upon arrival in Lagos, a claim supported by the airline’s account and partial video recordings circulating online. Calls have been made for an independent investigation to reconcile the conflicting accounts of the events on board and at the aircraft gate.
