A new chapter has opened in the history of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja Branch, as Engr. Nimot Muili was officially inaugurated as the 16th Chairman of the prestigious branch. The ceremonial handover, which took place at BON Hotel Ikeja Residence in Lagos, was marked by a strong showing of industry professionals, engineering thought leaders, and dignitaries from across the state, all gathered to witness the birth of a new leadership era.
In her inaugural speech, Engr. Muili spoke passionately about her vision to position engineering as a catalyst for Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation, stating that her tenure would be guided by a long-term strategic blueprint that prioritizes innovation, sustainability, and institutional growth. She described the event not merely as a symbolic tradition, but as a moment of renewed purpose and collective ambition to reimagine the role of engineering in national development.
“Today is more than a ceremonial gathering. It is a celebration of our shared journey, our collective victories, and a renewed pledge to nurture a robust engineering culture that contributes meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic and social advancement,” she declared.
Engr. Muili also unveiled a carefully articulated 10-year strategic development plan, designed to ensure continuity, foster innovative thinking, and reinforce the institutional backbone of the Ikeja Branch. She acknowledged the contributions of past leaders and members who, according to her, laid the foundation for the branch’s long-standing reputation as “The Branch to Beat” among NSE chapters nationwide.
Her speech also highlighted recent achievements by the branch under her leadership team, including the successful commissioning of a solar power system to support sustainable energy needs, acquisition of an 80KVA diesel generator to guarantee uninterrupted power supply, the rehabilitation of the damaged roof at the Rauf Aregbesola Engineering Resource Centre, and the installation of a custom-branded access door at the branch’s administrative office. She also emphasized the introduction of the V-STEAM initiative, launched in alignment with the MOPSA Agenda’s focus on community impact and educational outreach.
Looking ahead, Engr. Muili introduced the central theme that will define her tenure: “Innovation for Tomorrow: Resilient Infrastructure with the Blue Economy.” This thematic direction, she noted, resonates with the upcoming NSE National Conference scheduled to hold in Ibadan and emphasizes the strategic importance of exploring Nigeria’s vast Blue Economy potential.
She drew attention to the largely untapped economic prospects within the Blue Economy—ranging from sustainable marine agriculture, tourism, and water transportation to aquatic waste management and marine-based renewable energy—particularly as they relate to economic diversification, youth employment, and infrastructural advancement in Lagos State.
To harness these opportunities effectively, she called for massive investment in maritime infrastructure, the promotion of sailing and water-based recreational activities, and stronger partnerships with federal agencies to attract marine-sector financing and global interest.
The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Margaret Oguntala, who chaired the occasion, commended the new executive team and challenged them to lead with vision, inclusion, and purpose. She urged the new chairman to deepen mentorship opportunities for young engineers, prioritize unity among members, and deliver impactful projects that reflect the values of the profession.
Engr. Oguntala also highlighted the importance of the MOPSA document, which has now been adopted as the NSE’s strategic development guide. She encouraged members to fulfill their obligations, particularly in terms of timely payment of dues, and called on qualified individuals to embrace life membership as a commitment to the profession’s growth.
In a show of goodwill and continuity, the Immediate Past Chairman, Engr. Femi John Adedotun, congratulated Engr. Muili and expressed full confidence in her capacity to move the branch forward. Using a bicycle analogy, he reminded the incoming leadership that sustained progress requires constant motion.
“To stay balanced, you must keep moving. Don’t stand still,” he advised.
With a bold agenda and an ambitious roadmap, Engr. Nimot Muili’s emergence signals a forward-looking chapter for the NSE Ikeja Branch—one committed to engineering excellence, innovative thinking, and a resilient future for Nigeria’s built environment.
