Enugu Government Alleges ₦5.7bn Fraud by Sujimoto CEO in Smart Schools Project

Enugu, Nigeria | September 6, 2025
The Enugu State Government has accused the Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Construction, Sijibomi Ogundele, of allegedly mismanaging ₦5.7 billion allocated for the state’s Smart Schools Project.

In a statement, the government said the funds were released to Sujimoto Construction for the development of modern, technology-driven smart schools across the state. However, despite the substantial disbursement, the company reportedly failed to deliver on the contract terms, sparking concerns of fraud and breach of trust.

The government confirmed that the matter has been reported to relevant security and anti-corruption agencies for full investigation, with assurances that public funds would be recovered.

“This administration will not tolerate misuse of taxpayer resources. Contractors who fail to meet their obligations will be held accountable, regardless of status or influence,” the statement read.

The Smart Schools Project was envisioned to provide digital classrooms, modern learning tools, and ICT-integrated teaching facilities aimed at upgrading the state’s education sector. Authorities insist that despite the setback, the initiative will go ahead under strict monitoring to ensure value for money.
