Enugu PDP Applauds Supreme Court for Upholding Party Supremacy –

The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the Supreme Court for its ruling affirming the party’s supremacy in handling its internal affairs.

In a statement issued by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Chief Uche Obute, the party hailed the decision as a significant victory for democracy in Nigeria.

Supreme Court Ruling on Party Leadership
The Supreme Court recently ruled that matters concerning party leadership, including the position of the national secretary, are strictly internal affairs that should be resolved through the party’s mechanisms, without judicial interference.

“We commend the Supreme Court for upholding the principle of party supremacy in managing its internal affairs. This decision reinforces democracy and strengthens internal party structures,” Obute stated.

The party emphasized that Hon. Udeh Okoye was duly nominated, endorsed, and ratified as the substantive national secretary of the PDP through the party’s internal mechanisms, in line with the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).

Enugu PDP’s Commitment to Unity
Highlighting Okoye’s active role, the party noted that he had already assumed his responsibilities as national secretary, having recently attended the PDP South-East Zonal Congress at Okpara Square, Enugu. The event was described by both the South-East PDP National Congress Committee and INEC as peaceful, transparent, and successful.

“The State Working Committee urges all party members to remain united and work together to strengthen the party,” Obute said.

Acknowledgment of Party Leaders
The Enugu PDP expressed gratitude to the National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Board of Trustees, and the PDP Governors’ Forum for their leadership in resolving party issues.

Additionally, the party congratulated Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, the leader of the party in the South-East Zone, on the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“In conclusion, the State Working Committee, led by Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, thanks the NWC for its excellent leadership, as well as the PDP Board of Trustees for its role in fostering peace and resolving internal matters within the party,” Obute added.

With the Supreme Court’s decision, the Enugu PDP looks forward to strengthening party unity and moving forward with renewed confidence.
