The Enugu State Police Command has refuted widespread reports suggesting that a young woman who died in a hotel in Nsukka was a victim of ritual killing involving organ harvesting. Authorities have urged the public to disregard the unverified claims, describing them as misleading and lacking in factual basis.
In an official statement, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, stated that preliminary investigations have so far found no evidence to support the narrative of a ritual murder. According to him, the remains of the deceased were recovered intact, with no indications of mutilation or tampering typically associated with organ harvesting.
Ndukwe stressed that contrary to speculation circulating in sections of the media and on social platforms, the body of the victim was found undisturbed. “There were no missing body parts, no cuts, and no signs to suggest any form of ritual activity,” he affirmed.
The Police Command has, however, confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death. They assured the public that due diligence would be followed to ensure that justice is served, and any persons found culpable would be prosecuted according to the law.
The incident, which occurred in a hotel within the Nsukka area of Enugu State, had initially sparked outrage and panic, especially after claims emerged that the young woman’s organs were harvested in what was presumed to be a ritual killing. The swift response from the Police, however, appears to have calmed public anxiety, pending the outcome of a full autopsy and further forensic analysis.
The Enugu State Police Command reiterated its commitment to transparency and due process, while warning against the spread of unverified information capable of inciting fear or public disorder. They also called on the media to exercise restraint and professionalism by relying only on verified facts from credible sources.
