Ex‑South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Detained Again Over Martial Law Decree

July 10, 2025 | Seoul — A Seoul court has approved a second arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk Yeol, citing serious concerns that he may attempt to destroy critical evidence linked to his brief imposition of martial law in December 2024 .

Yoon, who was impeached and removed from office in April by South Korea’s Constitutional Court, previously spent 52 days in custody before being released in March on procedural grounds  .

He now faces additional allegations—abuse of power, obstruction of duties, falsifying documents, and an alleged secret drone campaign aimed at stoking tensions with North Korea to justify his clampdown  .

Following his five‑hour court hearing on July 9, Yoon was placed into solitary confinement at a Seoul detention facility. The warrant permits his detention for up to 20 days during pre‑indictment, and potentially six more months post‑indictment  .
