FAAN Hosts Stakeholders’ Forum to Strengthen Partnerships with Airport Concessionaires

LAGOS — In a strategic move to foster collaboration and drive sustainable growth across Nigeria’s aviation sector, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), through its Directorate of Commercial and Business Development, convened a high-level Stakeholders’ Forum with airport concessionaires on Monday, June 23, 2025.

The forum, held under the theme “Strengthening Partnerships for Sustainable Growth and Development,” brought together key players in the aviation business ecosystem, including concessionaires, service providers, regulatory authorities, and FAAN management. The event took place at FAAN headquarters and served as a platform to address challenges, streamline operations, and reinforce mutual commitments to excellence in airport services.

Speaking at the opening of the forum, a senior representative from FAAN’s Commercial Directorate emphasized the critical role concessionaires play in ensuring the efficiency, innovation, and financial viability of airport operations nationwide. He stated that the authority remains committed to creating a transparent and enabling environment where public-private partnerships can thrive.

“This gathering is a demonstration of our renewed focus on stakeholder engagement as a tool for transformation. We believe that strong partnerships lead to improved service delivery, operational growth, and ultimately, a world-class passenger experience across all our airports,” the official noted.

Participants engaged in open discussions around concession agreements, revenue-sharing frameworks, service quality, regulatory compliance, and future investment opportunities. Several stakeholders praised the initiative, describing it as timely and necessary for rebuilding trust, ensuring clarity in contract execution, and accelerating infrastructure development.

A concessionaire representative from the retail services sector commended FAAN for facilitating what he described as “a long-overdue conversation,” noting that issues around communication gaps, delayed contract reviews, and operational bottlenecks could be better resolved through continuous dialogue.

The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to quarterly engagement sessions, enhanced digitalisation of revenue tracking systems, and improved dispute resolution mechanisms to foster a more predictable and investor-friendly aviation environment.

The forum concluded with a resolution to form a joint technical committee comprising FAAN officials and representatives from various concessionaire categories to address outstanding issues and design strategies for future growth.
