The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has clarified that the recent revocation of land belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not politically motivated but rather due to failure to fulfill financial obligations.
Speaking during an engagement with the Body of Benchers in Abuja yesterday, Minister Wike disclosed that the PDP had accumulated N7.6 million in unpaid ground rent over a period exceeding ten years, despite generating between N13 billion and N20 billion from the sale of party nomination forms.
In a startling revelation, the FCT Minister stated that the PDP’s National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza is not registered in the party’s name but is instead listed under the ownership of an Abuja-based Senator who has reportedly failed to pay ground rent for 28 years.
“This exercise is not targeted at any particular institution or individual,” Wike emphasized. “Even government establishments such as the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Central Bank of Nigeria have had their land titles revoked for similar infractions.”
Our correspondent reports that on March 17, 2025, the FCT Administration revoked 4,794 land titles across the capital territory due to non-payment of ground rent for over a decade. The minister warned that his administration would continue to enforce compliance regardless of the status of the defaulting allottees.
The comprehensive revocation exercise affects numerous individuals, corporate entities, and government institutions throughout Abuja, according to official sources.
