FCT Police Chief Declares Zero Tolerance For Jungle Justice

In a firm stance against vigilante action, the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewole, has issued a stern warning to residents against taking the law into their own hands, declaring that mob justice will not be tolerated under his leadership in Nigeria’s capital city.

Speaking on Wednesday during the command’s community outreach programme designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement officers and citizens in Abuja, CP Adewole emphasized the importance of proper legal channels for addressing criminal matters.

I strongly encourage all residents to report any security violations to the appropriate authorities, as trust in our law enforcement system is essential for creating a safer society, the Commissioner stated during the event. Jungle justice will absolutely not be permitted in the FCT. Communities must allow police officers to handle criminal situations with professional expertise.

The Police Chief reassured FCT inhabitants of the force’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives and property throughout the territory, emphasizing that officers remain committed to maintaining peace across all districts and settlements.

In his remarks at the gathering, the District Head and Hakimi of Jikwoyi, Nicodemus Saadu, expressed appreciation for police efforts in securing the area but highlighted transportation challenges as a significant obstacle preventing officers from responding promptly to incidents. The traditional ruler called for enhanced logistical support to improve police effectiveness within the community.

Several residents who participated in the outreach acknowledged the dedication of police personnel while pointing out various challenges confronting the community, including insufficient resources and inadequate infrastructure to support effective law enforcement operations.

The Chairman of the FCT Police Community Relations Committee, Ebegba Rufus, praised the outreach initiative, noting that such interactions would help narrow the gap between law enforcement agencies and the public, fostering stronger collaborative relationships.

A highlight of the programme was an educational presentation on crime and its societal consequences delivered by ACP Olabisi, representing the Police Community and Volunteer Corps. She underscored the vital role mothers play in raising children with strong moral foundations and urged parents to collaborate in instilling values of discipline and integrity in their offspring.

The outreach forms part of ongoing efforts by the FCT Police Command to engage proactively with communities while addressing rising concerns about vigilante justice incidents in various parts of the territory.
