Civil servants under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) took to the streets in protest, expressing deep frustration over what they described as the continued neglect of staff welfare and administrative irregularities by the FCT Minister and other top officials.
Speaking during the demonstration, a visibly aggrieved protester stated that the protest was necessitated by the Minister’s consistent failure to address critical issues affecting workers within the FCT civil service. The workers called for immediate reforms and demanded the removal of the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, citing incompetence and insensitivity to staff concerns.
According to her, the protest represents the collective voice of workers who feel sidelined and unheard, especially in matters relating to promotions, welfare, and the controversial appointment of overseeing directors. “This protest is against the blatant refusal of the FCT Minister to address salient issues affecting staff. The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission must go. We say no to the position of overseeing directors,” she declared emphatically.
Protesters, carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, described the appointment of overseeing directors as a deliberate attempt to bypass due process and marginalize qualified senior officers in the civil service structure. They alleged that the move is contrary to established civil service protocols and undermines morale within the workforce.
The protest, which disrupted activities at several FCTA departments, has drawn the attention of stakeholders who have urged the federal authorities to swiftly intervene and address the grievances of the protesting workers before tensions escalate further.
