Federal Government Reaffirms Commitment to Combating Insecurity Amid Rising Attacks

The Federal Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to addressing the escalating security challenges across Nigeria, emphasizing enhanced investments in military assets, personnel training, and intelligence infrastructure.

Speaking at the first quarter media stakeholders’ seminar for top media executives in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, underscored the administration’s resolve to combat security threats nationwide. The seminar, held on Wednesday, provided a platform for discussing the government’s strategies in tackling insecurity.

Idris highlighted that recent attacks by non-state actors in states such as Plateau, Benue, and Borno have resulted in significant loss of lives, prompting widespread concern among citizens. These incidents have intensified public scrutiny regarding the government’s efforts to ensure safety and security.

Represented by the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Ndace, Idris emphasized that the Tinubu administration remains steadfast in its commitment to overcoming these threats. He noted that under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, a cardinal objective is to guarantee national security through strategic investments in military assets, training of armed forces and security personnel, and strengthening intelligence gathering mechanisms at all levels.

The minister further urged media organizations to exercise caution in their reporting, advising against giving undue publicity to terrorists and their activities. He described such coverage as “fuel for their operations” and called on the media to focus on highlighting the sacrifices of the military and the resilience of affected communities.

Idris also emphasized the media’s role as a vital partner in the national security architecture, urging journalists to strike a balance between the public’s right to know and the imperative to protect national interests. He encouraged media stakeholders to deny terrorists the “oxygen of publicity” by refusing to give prominence to their actions.

In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde, highlighted the evolving role of the media in modern warfare. He noted that in today’s complex security environment, the media has become a key element of tactical, operational, and strategic planning, particularly in the information warfare space. Musa called for a professionalized, proactive media approach that is fully integrated into military planning to counter misinformation and maintain public trust.

The seminar also featured discussions on the importance of collaboration between government agencies, international partners, and security experts to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region. Participants emphasized the need for a coordinated effort in addressing the root causes of violence and insecurity.

As the nation continues to grapple with security challenges, the Federal Government remains committed to implementing comprehensive strategies aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.
