Asaba, Delta State – June 28, 2025
The Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State, has convicted and sentenced Christiana Uadiale, identified as a key figure in an international human trafficking network, to 12 years imprisonment.
Uadiale was found guilty of multiple charges related to human trafficking, including recruitment and illegal transportation of young Nigerian women abroad for exploitative purposes. Her conviction marks a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s fight against transnational trafficking syndicates.
Delivering judgment, the presiding judge stated that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to others involved in the heinous trade, which continues to endanger the lives and dignity of countless Nigerians, particularly young women.
The case against Uadiale was prosecuted following thorough investigations by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which applauded the ruling as a victory for justice and a bold step towards dismantling organized human trafficking rings operating across borders.
According to NAPTIP, Uadiale played a central role in coordinating the trafficking of victims to various countries in Europe, where they were subjected to forced labor and sexual exploitation.
Reacting to the verdict, officials reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on human trafficking and pledged continued efforts to prosecute offenders, rescue victims, and strengthen international cooperation in combating the crime.
The court also ordered that necessary steps be taken to ensure restitution and rehabilitation for victims exploited by the trafficking ring.
