Ede, Osun State – September 6, 2025
The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Dr. Sani Man Yahaya, has praised the administration of President Bola Tinubu for introducing the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a transformative initiative for Nigeria’s education sector.
Dr. Yahaya stated that the program has ensured that no interested student misses higher education due to financial constraints, highlighting the fund’s role in expanding access to tertiary education across the country.
NELFUND was formally established under the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act, 2024, which President Tinubu signed into law on April 3, 2024. The fund provides interest-free loans to students in public tertiary institutions to cover tuition and maintenance costs.
As of May 3, 2025, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, has received two batches of loan disbursements for its students. Nationally, NELFUND has disbursed approximately ₦22.7 billion to 215,514 students across Nigeria, supporting the government’s objective of making higher education accessible regardless of students’ financial backgrounds.
Dr. Yahaya urged eligible students to take advantage of the program and described it as a significant step toward reducing financial barriers in education.
