FG, AfDB Donate Buses to FSTCs in Borno, Adamawa to Support Displaced Students

BORNO/ADAMAWA — The Federal Government, in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), has donated a fleet of buses to Federal Science and Technical Colleges (FSTCs) in Borno and Adamawa States to improve transportation for students and staff, especially those displaced by insurgency.

The donation forms part of a broader initiative to revitalise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across Nigeria and to strengthen access to education in conflict-affected regions.

According to the Federal Ministry of Education, the intervention is designed to ease mobility challenges in the two North-East states and ensure inclusive learning for internally displaced students and vulnerable communities.

Speaking at the handover event, ministry officials commended the AfDB for its continued support in advancing Nigeria’s educational infrastructure and emphasised the importance of transportation in retaining students in school, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.

“This effort is not just about buses; it’s about restoring hope and rebuilding lives through education,” one official remarked.

Local education authorities in Borno and Adamawa described the development as timely and crucial in the ongoing efforts to normalise school attendance and strengthen technical training in the region.

The partnership between the FG and AfDB is part of the Skills Development for Youth Empowerment (SKYE) project aimed at improving the quality of TVET and equipping Nigerian youth with market-relevant skills.
