FG Approves ₦507 Billion for Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road Project

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to infrastructure development with the approval of ₦507 billion for the reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway. The decision was taken during the March 2025 meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This key national infrastructure project spans a total of 164 kilometers in its second section and serves as a critical link between the North-Central and North-West geopolitical zones of Nigeria. It plays a vital role in the movement of goods and people across the region, facilitating trade, commerce, and national integration.

According to the Minister of Works, the approved funding will cover extensive road rehabilitation, expansion of existing lanes, and enhancement of safety features. He emphasized that the project will be delivered in phases and is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs during its execution.

The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road has long been a subject of public concern due to its deteriorating condition and its role as a high-traffic route for commuters and transporters. The reconstruction is seen as a step towards improving travel time, reducing road crashes, and bolstering economic activity in the corridor.

The Ministry of Works will work closely with contractors and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery and adherence to international standards.
