The Federal Government has officially commissioned sixteen new infrastructure projects at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Kware, Sokoto State, marking a significant boost to mental health services in the region. The commissioning ceremony was led by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, who highlighted the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery across Nigeria.
Among the facilities inaugurated are a state-of-the-art Molecular Laboratory, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and a Regional Women and Children Drug Dependency Treatment Centre. These additions are expected to enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide advanced diagnostics, critical care, and specialized rehabilitation services for substance abuse among vulnerable groups.
Dr. Salako emphasized that the projects are part of the broader Renewed Hope Agenda spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aimed at modernizing healthcare infrastructure and ensuring mental health reform nationwide. The improvements will not only increase patient care efficiency but also expand the hospital’s ability to serve more patients effectively.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare reaffirmed its dedication to supporting healthcare facilities with adequate resources to meet international standards and improve the wellbeing of Nigerians. This milestone signals a positive step towards strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system, particularly in the mental health sector.
