FG Constructing 6,122 Housing Units Across Northern Nigeria Under Renewed Hope Programme

ABUJA, August 6, 2025 — The Federal Government has commenced the construction of 6,122 housing units across several states in Northern Nigeria as part of its Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme, designed to address the nation’s housing deficit and improve the living conditions of citizens.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, during an inspection visit to selected project sites in Kano, Kaduna, and Niger States. According to the Minister, the housing initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s vision to provide affordable and accessible shelter for all Nigerians, particularly low- and middle-income earners.

Arc. Dangiwa stated that the housing projects are being executed in two categories: the Renewed Hope Cities, which are larger, integrated developments featuring thousands of housing units and full infrastructure, and the Renewed Hope Estates, which cater to smaller communities and semi-urban areas.

He confirmed that the current construction drive includes 500 units in Kano, 250 in Kaduna, 500 in Niger, 250 in Nasarawa, 250 in Gombe, 250 in Yobe, and 250 in Jigawa, among others — bringing the total to 6,122 housing units across the North.

“These housing projects are not just about buildings; they are about transforming lives, creating jobs, and stimulating local economies,” Dangiwa noted. He added that over 30,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created through the construction process.

The Renewed Hope housing programme also emphasizes the use of local materials and indigenous contractors to promote homegrown capacity development.

Beneficiaries of the scheme will have access to flexible payment options through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and other housing finance institutions, in line with the government’s commitment to inclusive housing for all citizens.

The initiative is being widely applauded as a significant step toward achieving sustainable urban development and bridging the housing gap in Nigeria.
