FG Disburses ₦50bn to Primary Health Centers in Q1 2025 — Minister Pate

Abuja, Nigeria — August 17, 2025 | The Federal Government has released ₦50 billion from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to primary health centers (PHCs) across the country in the first quarter of 2025, as part of ongoing reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare delivery at the grassroots.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, who confirmed the disbursement in Abuja, said the initiative is central to the government’s drive to achieve universal health coverage and reduce funding gaps that have long hindered effective medical services in rural and underserved communities.

According to Pate, the funds will enable PHCs nationwide to scale up critical services, including maternal and child healthcare, immunization, and emergency response, while also boosting support for frontline health workers. He noted that the intervention is structured to ensure that communities relying on PHCs for most of their medical needs benefit directly.

The Minister emphasized that strict transparency and accountability mechanisms have been put in place to monitor how the funds are utilized, assuring Nigerians that wastage and mismanagement would not be tolerated.

He further stated that the administration is committed to prioritizing health financing as a pillar of national development, stressing that a stronger and well-funded primary healthcare system will ease pressure on tertiary hospitals and improve overall health outcomes across the country.
