FG Dismisses Rumours on Cancellation of 2025 WAEC and NECO Exams

The Federal Government has officially debunked viral claims suggesting that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination and the National Examinations Council assessments have been cancelled.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Federal Ministry of Education described the information circulating on social media platforms as entirely false and misleading. The ministry confirmed that both WAEC and NECO examinations are ongoing across the country as originally scheduled.

Nigerians, particularly students, parents and school administrators, have been advised to disregard the fake reports. The ministry emphasized that any updates regarding national examinations will be released solely through verified government communication channels.

“This is a calculated attempt to create panic and confusion among students preparing for their exams,” the statement read. “We urge the public to verify information from credible sources before sharing.”

The ministry reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining the integrity and consistency of the country’s educational calendar. It also warned individuals or groups responsible for spreading false news to desist, as such acts could disrupt the academic progress of thousands of Nigerian students.

WAEC and NECO examinations are critical milestones for senior secondary school students, determining their eligibility for tertiary education and other academic pursuits. The ministry’s swift response is expected to douse tensions and restore confidence in the ongoing examination process.
