Umunze, Anambra State – July 2025 — The Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has distributed relief materials to households affected by a recent windstorm in Orumba North and South Federal Constituency of Anambra State.
The distribution exercise, which was coordinated by NEMA’s Enugu Operations Office, was held in Umunze, the administrative headquarters of the constituency.
Speaking during the flag-off, the Head of Enugu Operations Office, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu, represented by Mr. Nnanyelugo Ezeani, conveyed the federal government’s heartfelt sympathy to the victims. She explained that the relief materials were approved by the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, as part of efforts to cushion the hardship faced by residents following the natural disaster.
She clarified that while the materials were not intended to fully replace personal losses, they are a form of immediate support to help the affected communities recover more quickly.
Mrs. Echeazu also used the opportunity to advise residents on preventive safety measures to reduce the risks associated with windstorms. These include adherence to approved building standards, regular property maintenance, trimming of overgrown tree branches, and replacing weak or aged trees with healthier alternatives.
“These proactive steps are critical for minimizing the impact of future disasters and ensuring safer, more resilient communities,” she emphasized.
Community leaders and affected residents expressed appreciation to the federal government and NEMA for the timely intervention.
