FG Expands National Cash Transfer Programme to Benefit 15 Million Vulnerable Nigerians

Abuja, Nigeria – August 9, 2025

The Federal Government has announced the expansion of the National Cash Transfer Programme to reach 15 million vulnerable Nigerians, in a move aimed at alleviating poverty and cushioning the effects of economic challenges across the country.

Speaking at a briefing in Abuja, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, said the expansion aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes social protection and inclusive economic growth.

According to the minister, the programme will target households in rural and underserved communities, with beneficiaries receiving direct cash support to improve living conditions and support small-scale livelihoods.

She added that the initiative will work in synergy with other government interventions to promote food security, access to healthcare, and educational opportunities for vulnerable groups, while ensuring transparency through digital payment systems.

Community leaders and development partners have welcomed the move, describing it as a crucial step in addressing socio-economic inequalities and uplifting millions of Nigerians from poverty.
