Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government has set an ambitious revenue target of $25 billion through a strategic collaboration between Galaxy Backbone (GBB) and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) aimed at expanding energy access to schools and hospitals across the country.
The partnership, announced on Monday, seeks to leverage digital infrastructure and sustainable energy solutions to transform education and healthcare service delivery, particularly in underserved and rural communities.
Speaking during the unveiling of the initiative, the Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, explained that the collaboration would not only fast-track digital connectivity but also provide reliable electricity to key public institutions through renewable energy.
“This partnership is designed to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by ensuring that no school or hospital is left in the dark. We’re deploying smart, energy-efficient solutions that will reduce government expenditure, improve service delivery, and generate long-term revenue,” Adeyanju said.
The Managing Director of REA, Engr. Ahmad Salihijo, highlighted that the agency’s vast experience in off-grid power deployment will be instrumental in reaching thousands of facilities across Nigeria. He emphasized that the project aligns with the national electrification strategy and is expected to catalyze rural development, improve learning outcomes, and reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
The initiative also aims to boost local content, create jobs, and stimulate economic activity, while advancing Nigeria’s commitment to clean energy transition.
Government officials expressed optimism that the synergy between technology and energy sectors will contribute significantly to national GDP and unlock substantial private sector investment.
