FG Halts Paramilitary Recruitment, New Portal Set to Reopen July 21

ABUJA — July 17, 2025 — The Federal Government has announced a temporary suspension of ongoing recruitment into various paramilitary agencies across the country, with plans to reopen the official application portal on Monday, July 21, 2025.

The announcement was made through the Ministry of Interior, which oversees key paramilitary institutions including the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Fire Service, and the Nigerian Correctional Service.

According to the Ministry, the suspension is aimed at restructuring the recruitment process to ensure transparency, eliminate irregularities, and create equal opportunities for all eligible Nigerians.

Interior Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasized the government’s commitment to merit-based recruitment and digital integrity. “We are upgrading the portal to reflect a more user-friendly and fraud-proof system. The delay is in the best interest of applicants and the integrity of our national services,” he stated.

The suspension comes amid growing interest in the recruitment drive, with tens of thousands of applicants seeking positions in the nation’s security and emergency management architecture.

Applicants who have already started their applications have been advised to await further instructions when the portal reopens. The Ministry assured the public that no applicant would be disadvantaged by the pause.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its dedication to a transparent and credible recruitment process that will bolster the effectiveness of paramilitary agencies while ensuring fairness across all regions.
