FG Hosts Public Lecture to Mark Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Anniversary

As part of the events commemorating Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Anniversary, the Federal Government convened a high-level Public Lecture at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, with the theme: “Consolidating the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms.”

The gathering brought together key stakeholders in governance, civil society, academia, and the diplomatic community to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey since the return to civilian rule in 1999.

Delivering keynote remarks, distinguished speakers highlighted the importance of institutional reforms, electoral integrity, rule of law, and civic engagement as cornerstones for deepening democratic governance in Nigeria. The lecture also provided a platform for assessing Nigeria’s progress, challenges, and the critical need for sustainable reforms to safeguard democratic gains.

Participants emphasized that enduring reforms across all tiers of government are imperative to build public trust, ensure inclusive governance, and strengthen the resilience of democratic institutions.

The event was attended by senior government officials, lawmakers, political leaders, civil society advocates, and members of the diplomatic corps, affirming the collective resolve to uphold democratic ideals and work toward a more prosperous and unified Nigeria.
