FG Launches Passport Front Office in Abuja to Expedite Senior Officials’ Applications

Abuja, July 9, 2025 — The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Interior and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), today inaugurated a dedicated Passport Front Office at the NIS headquarters in Abuja to streamline passport services for senior public officials.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo, explained that the move was prompted by persistent delays senior officials faced at conventional passport centres. “Before now, many top-level public servants had to abandon their official duties and endure long queues,” the minister noted, adding that the new facility is designed to improve access, reduce waiting time, and enhance service delivery standards .

The Minister praised the NIS and its tech partner, Iris Smart Technologies, for installing state-of-the-art digital infrastructure powering the new facility, saying it “sets a new benchmark for excellence” . Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani described the office as a high-priority channel ensuring efficient passport issuance for officials whose mobility is vital to national service .

This initiative aligns with broader reforms launched in 2023 aimed at decongesting passport offices and eliminating processing backlogs. It complements earlier efforts that cleared over 200,000 pending passport applications, introduced automated systems, contactless processing, and aim to decentralise passport services nationwide and abroad .
