FG Removes Consultants, Corps Members from Federal Payroll, Warns Against Unauthorized Payments

Abuja, September 2, 2025 – The Federal Government has directed that consultants and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members should no longer be included in the personnel payroll of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), warning that any breach of the directive will attract sanctions.

In a circular issued by the Budget Office of the Federation, the government emphasized that only duly recognized federal employees should be captured under personnel costs. It clarified that allowances for corps members will be centrally funded through the NYSC budget, while any additional stipends provided by host agencies must be sourced from their overhead provisions, not personnel allocations.

The directive, which forms part of ongoing fiscal reforms, is aimed at tightening control over government wage bills and preventing the diversion of funds under the guise of unauthorized personnel expenses.

The Budget Office further cautioned that any unauthorized payments from the personnel cost budget will be met with strict disciplinary measures, underscoring the government’s resolve to strengthen transparency and accountability in public finance management.

This move aligns with the administration’s broader agenda of curbing wastage, plugging leakages, and ensuring that public resources are channeled towards critical national development priorities.
