FG Set to Audit MDAs Nationwide in 2025 to Strengthen Transparency and Efficiency

In a renewed effort to entrench accountability and transparency in government institutions, the Parastatals Monitoring Office (PMO), under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), is set to embark on its Year 2025 Inspection Exercise across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government.

The inspection, expected to commence in the third quarter of 2025, is designed to assess the performance, project implementation, and overall compliance of MDAs with administrative and financial regulations.

According to official communication from the PMO, the exercise will focus on the effective use of government funds, staff productivity, service delivery, procurement processes, and alignment with key national development goals, including the priorities of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The move comes as part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance the functionality of public service institutions and identify areas that require structural or managerial reforms. Officials say the inspection is not punitive, but rather a performance and compliance audit intended to promote efficiency and accountability across all sectors.

The PMO will deploy technical teams across all geopolitical zones to engage directly with agency leadership, review official records, inspect capital projects, and verify budget performance on site.

A senior officer at the PMO, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said: “What we aim to achieve is a more responsible and performance-driven public sector. Every kobo spent must be accounted for, and every mandate must be executed with integrity.”

The last inspection exercise conducted in 2023 revealed several lapses, including non-adherence to due process, project abandonment, and cases of mismanaged funds, prompting government to take corrective actions. This year’s audit is expected to take a more data-driven approach with digital documentation and real-time reporting.

The inspection will run throughout the 2025 fiscal year, with final reports expected to guide policy adjustments and form part of the government’s evaluation matrix for budget planning and resource allocation in subsequent years.

Public service observers have lauded the initiative, urging the PMO to ensure transparency in its own operations while calling on MDAs to cooperate fully in the national interest.

As the federal government continues to prioritize accountability, the 2025 inspection signals a critical push toward reforming Nigeria’s bureaucratic system and restoring public trust in governance
