FG Sets Stage for ‘NASENI Week’ to Position Nigeria as Africa’s Innovation Powerhouse

ABUJA — In a bold stride to establish Nigeria as the epicentre of Africa’s innovation and manufacturing solutions, the Federal Government has inaugurated the Planning Committee for the maiden edition of NASENI Week, a flagship initiative under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Halilu, who presided over the inauguration in Abuja, described the forthcoming NASENI Week as a game-changing platform designed to deepen collaboration, encourage co-creation, and drive continental conversations around indigenous technology, innovation, and industrial solutions.

According to Halilu, the event aims to convene Africa’s brightest inventors, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and manufacturing leaders under one roof — spotlighting homegrown solutions that can accelerate Africa’s transformation and industrial self-reliance.

“As part of our broader strategy to reposition NASENI as Africa’s leading hub for innovation and industrial manufacturing, NASENI Week will serve as a springboard for showcasing African ingenuity, facilitating partnerships, and nurturing the continent’s manufacturing value chain,” Halilu said.

He urged the newly inaugurated planning committee to deliver a world-class experience from ideation to execution, noting that the success of the event will reflect Nigeria’s leadership role in shaping the continent’s technological future.

“I charge you to think boldly, act purposefully, and deliver an event that truly reflects our shared aspirations for a technologically sovereign Africa. This must be more than an exhibition; it should be a movement for innovation-led transformation,” Halilu added.

The event, scheduled to hold later in the year, is expected to feature keynote sessions, technology showcases, pitch competitions, panel discussions, and investor engagements. Participants from across Africa and the diaspora will engage on critical topics including local manufacturing capacity, tech-enabled industrialization, sustainable energy solutions, and digital infrastructure development.

With Nigeria pushing to harness its demographic advantage and drive inclusive industrial growth, stakeholders believe NASENI Week will not only highlight indigenous capacity but also attract global attention to Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem.

The development is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes science, technology, and innovation as pillars for achieving economic diversification and national self-reliance.

More details on the event’s schedule, partners, and key speakers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
