Abuja, Nigeria – July, 2025
The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a landmark Technical Manpower Assistance Agreement with the Government of Saint Lucia, paving the way for the deployment of skilled Nigerian professionals to the Caribbean nation. This initiative is aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation and deepening ties with the African diaspora
The agreement, which was formalized under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) scheme coordinated by the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA), marks a strategic step in Nigeria’s renewed commitment to share expertise and support capacity development in developing countries.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Abuja, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, described the partnership as a win-win initiative that will not only provide professional support to Saint Lucia but also expand global opportunities for Nigerian experts.
“This partnership reinforces our Pan-African solidarity and positions Nigeria as a hub of global technical support. The deployment of professionals to Saint Lucia will promote mutual growth, cultural exchange, and regional cooperation,” he said.
Under the agreement, Nigerian professionals, including doctors, engineers, teachers, ICT experts, and agriculture specialists, will be deployed to Saint Lucia and other selected Caribbean countries to support key sectors.
Representing Saint Lucia, the country’s High Commissioner expressed appreciation to Nigeria for its willingness to share its pool of expertise and pledged continued diplomatic collaboration on various fronts.
Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Aid Corps, Dr. Yusuf Yakub, noted that the deployment process will commence shortly and will be strictly merit-based, targeting skilled Nigerians eager to serve abroad and contribute to the country’s international image.
The Technical Aid Corps programme was established in 1987 as a foreign policy instrument to export Nigeria’s human capital to developing countries while promoting goodwill, peace, and socioeconomic development.
This latest agreement signals Nigeria’s proactive engagement with the Caribbean and reaffirms its leadership in fostering South-South partnerships for global development.
