FG Targets 2 Million Jobs with 77,400 Housing Units Nationwide

ABUJA, July 24, 2025 – The Federal Government has announced an ambitious plan to create over two million jobs through the construction of 77,400 housing units across the country, in a move aimed at addressing both unemployment and the nation’s housing deficit.

This initiative was revealed as part of the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Under the plan, the government will build a total of 34,500 housing units across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in addition to 3,112 housing units within the Renewed Hope Cities and 39,000 under the Renewed Hope Estates schemes.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, stated that the housing project will generate at least 2 million direct and indirect jobs. According to him, the programme is designed to promote inclusive economic growth, reduce poverty, and provide decent shelter for Nigerians.

Dangiwa further noted that the initiative will also prioritise the use of local building materials and labour, which will support local industries and artisans. “This is not just about building homes; it is about building a sustainable economy that benefits all Nigerians,” he said.

The project is expected to span urban and semi-urban locations, targeting low to middle-income earners and promoting affordability, accessibility, and infrastructural development.
