FG to Launch Smart Police Stations Nationwide, Enhancing Security Through Digital Innovation

Abuja – June 2025

The Federal Government is set to establish a network of Smart Police Stations across Nigeria, marking a key milestone in its digital transformation drive under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

A Memorandum of Understanding between Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), signed in Abuja, outlines plans to roll out the initiative. GBB will provide essential fibre-optic connectivity, cloud infrastructure, and ICT solutions to equip modern police facilities nationwide .

These upgraded stations will feature advanced digital tools such as real-time CCTV surveillance, secure communication networks, electronic case management systems, artificial intelligence-powered analytics, and strong cybersecurity capabilities . The goal is to streamline incident response, improve information sharing, and bolster accountability, ultimately restoring public trust in law enforcement.

Earlier this year, a pilot Smart Police Station was inaugurated in Katampe-Mpape, Abuja, under the Nigeria Police Trust Fund’s leadership in collaboration with the Ministry of Police Affairs. Equipped with solar power, CCTV, borehole water, firefighting systems, and secure fencing, it serves as a model for future installations in states such as Kogi, Enugu, and Ebonyi .

Ministerial authorities stated the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to modernising policing and enhancing grassroots security through innovative infrastructure and community partnerships .

With nationwide deployment, the Smart Stations project is expected to transform policing, making it more responsive, transparent, and community-centred across Nigeria.
